hm, there's also her neck- it seems to be a bit thin and doesn't look like it's turning or whatever...
oh we were talking about her face- well basically her forehead is huge and her eyes are sort of stuck in the middle kinda like those hilarious photoshopped images where they make the mouth and eyes tiny but not the rest of the face (I believe they were called woll smoth) and lastly there's the cheek-fluff- I can't find the shape of her head in that mess, maybe you went overboard with it?
Well you see, I tried more to recreate the style that the original artist has, not make it 100% anatomically correct ( come to think of it, how could an anthro squirrel be anatomically correct...? )
Still, I thank you for taking the time to express your opinion and point out the flaws ^^
and well, in cases of anthro characters like these ones they're sorta following human anatomy rules anyway so you can take that cliche argument of "HOW CAN X FANTASY CRITTER BE 100% ANATOMICALLY ACCURATE" and throw it out a window (seriously I've seen it being used to justify a lot of shitty mistakes so I kind of lash out when I see it- not that you're doing anything as egregious as they are, it's just a warning to not deploy that argument with me)
so yeah if you get your human anatomy better or right you can do your anthros better
I think what happened is that JJ's style is REALLY HEAVILY stylized so it's probably a little harder to get right.
It is influenced by the level of realism the artist wants to portray. I personally am not aiming for 100% anatomically correct, as long as it look nice. I'm nowhere close to that, mind you xD
I do have lots to learn on how to make non-anatomically correct look well. JJ makes "non-anatomically correct" look beautiful, thus... ;D
I'm fairly sure most artists who are really good at non-anatomically correct art (Jollyjack INCLUDED) DID learn to draw real actual anatomy before they deviated from the rules/did their unique shit.
I mean, you actually HAVE to learn to color within the fucking lines before you can go WITHOUT the lines. Otherwise you just get a pulpy broken mess of rubbery limbs and arms that don't work well.
THAT, and I think Jolly is actually being accurate but you know what he's doing? he's just slightly exaggerating/playing with those rules and lines and features in anatomy. Because he fucking knows them enough already.
actually, we went off course... let's not do that... we weren't talking about the anatomy or about the importance of knowing your anatomy REGARDLESS of the style you're drawing in... I was just saying that Scarlet's face just looks really creepy here, and it's because HER FACIAL PROPORTIONS ARE JUST A TEENSY BIT OFF, plus the construction of her head seems to be a little unsound... it's really falling right into the infamous "Uncanny Valley".
I think i remember JJ actually admitting he doesn't really know anatomy too well, but he just doesn't care because it still looks good ;D
And I assure you I know human anatomy.... I have Human and lab animal anatomy as a subject ;D But I guess to draw and to know anatomy is very different. Still, as I said, I'm not aiming for 100% realistic style. I'm kind of partially a cartoonist ( heh, i like making the heads purposely a tad too big ;D )
well, the reason being- her eyes and nose sort of look... dis-aligned, almost like her face is melting
